Bonjour! We made it to Paris by train. What an experience...it was a nice change from flying in an airplane. Once we arrived in Paris, we took a car to where our hotel was located in Versailles. It was about a 30 minute ride from Paris. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace in Versailles.
I now know why they call Paris the city of LOVE (& Lights)! Such a romantic place! From the beautiful towers, churches, palaces, archways, bridges and fountains...this place is just amazing! So many things to see and do here. We could have easily stayed another week. We didn't realize it but while we were in Paris, most of the city was celebrating their Labor Day! Labor Day in Paris meant that a lot of the museums and shops were closed. This is why you will see a sad face in the picture of me in front of the Louvre. No worries, there was plenty more to see and do on this day! Just being on the grounds of the Louvre was amazing, I can't even imagine what the inside would have been like.
Joe and I got a kick out of going to dinner and not knowing what was the on menu since it was all in French. We actually found out that the better places to eat were restaurants that had no English on their menu and instead was all in French. This meant the locals ate there and not just the tourist. We enjoyed lots of french favorites like escargot, baguettes with cheese, french onion soup, crepes and so much more yummy french food.
The highlights from our Paris portion of our trip included the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Versailles and its beauty, Arc De Triomphe, the burlesque show...Crazy Horse, EuroDisney: Disneyland Paris, trains, trains and more trains. Joe and I actually got pretty good at finding our way onto the trains and figuring out which ones to take.
I got really lucky on my flight back home which I rode by myself since Joe would be flying out the next day to go back to work. I was able to fly on Continental's new Boeing 777 with the lie-flat seat for business first class. Makes flying much more enjoyable when you can watch new release movies (as many as you want) on your personal tv monitor and lie down the entire time. Joe and I didn't get as lucky on the flight to Europe. We were flying on an older plane whose seats had not been switched out yet. Joe will get the chance to fly on the new Boeing 777 on his next flight home.
I am looking forward to returning to Europe in the future...we still have so much more to see and experience.
Au Revoir for now...
