I am so excited about a new Christmas family tradition that we will be starting this year. Growing up, my family had an elf ornament that was always a favorite of mine. Not sure whatever happened to that elf. I was so happy when I heard of, "
Elf on the Shelf". I will share the book and elf with my family on Thanksgiving. You read the book to your children and explain the purpose of the elf. You must decide on a name together as a family. The idea is that the elf watches the children and then each night he flies to the North Pole to report back to Santa who has been naughty and nice that day. The next day, the elf is in a new spot (so you hide him in a different place every night and the kids will look forward to finding him each morning). It's a great way to remind the kids that they need to be on their best behavior at all times. On Christmas Eve the elf returns to Santa and doesn't come back until next year. You will have to check back after Thanksgiving to find out what we named our elf.
